URDesigns has been a customer intelligence company since before the term existed.

Twenty years ago, Eric Dobbins was recovering hundreds of skipped preventive maintenance appointments every month by sending a zero-dollar invoice.

Not a reminder and not a phone call, but document that made the customer assume responsibility for their own decision. The invoice stated the PM was skipped by request. It went to accounting. It went on record. And customers who saw it started rescheduling before anyone called them. The SBR — Skipped By Request — recovered more appointments every month than any outreach campaign had before it.

That was customer intelligence before anyone called it that.

The same principle ran through everything URDesigns built. Advertising on invoices and receipts put the right message in front of customers at the exact moment they were already thinking about the company. Repair refusal documents gave customers ownership of their choices and gave the company measurable data on customer intent. Forcing accountability onto the customer — not the technician, not the sales rep, not the service manager — and capturing what happened as a result.

Every one of those practices had the same principle at its core: Put the customer in the driver seat, capture the moment they make a decision, and give the company visibility into what is happening before it shows up in a quarterly report.

Eric Dobbins grew up inspired by his father who owned a Tool & Die Company. It was known for turning complex, costly parts into streamlined, efficient solutions that saved time and money. His father had a unique way of simplifying the complex, making the impossible seem attainable. This approach didn’t just impact the business; it shaped Eric’s entire outlook on problem-solving.

As Eric pursued his own career, he carried this mindset with him, climbing the ranks to become a Director at multiple Fortune 1,000 companies. He leveraged principles like end-user buy-in, lean manufacturing, team building, and leadership, all while pioneering mobile app development as far back as 1999.

Through successes and lessons learned from implementing ERP systems, inventory management, and production planning, Eric realized that true innovation lies in combining all these elements into one cohesive strategy—what he calls “Solutions Without Walls.” This vision led Eric to create UR-Designs, a tribute to his father’s legacy. The name combines “UR” (meaning “Your”) and “Designs” as a nod to both his father’s business and to you, the client.
